Yamuna Froth: Delhi government contacts the Center and asks Haryana, UP for instructions

The governing AAP stated in a statement that the government has taken "urgent measures" to address the issue because it is worried about the abrupt spike in pollution levels in Yamuna.

The Yamuna is Delhi's lifeblood; in contrast to residents of other states, the city's residents rely solely on the river for their daily needs.

The AAP administration in Delhi, seeing foam in the highly contaminated Yamuna river, requested on Friday that the Center direct Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to make sure their factories do not discharge raw waste into the river.

The governing AAP stated in a statement that the government has taken "urgent measures" to address the issue because it is worried about the abrupt spike in pollution levels in Yamuna.

"This problem has occurred all of a sudden due significant industrial waste being released from UP as well as Haryana that is entering Delhi through river Yamuna," it said.

According to AAP, the Center has to act right now to make sure that businesses functioning in the two states don't discharge their waste into Yamuna without first receiving the appropriate treatment.

The Yamuna is Delhi's lifeblood, and unlike residents in other states, the city's residents rely only on the river for their daily needs, according to the statement.

The AAP argued that "the BJP has been creating hurdles for the people of Delhi ever since it came to power in the Center," and that the Center need to provide severe orders to the governments of UP and Haryana to "ban" such polluting enterprises right now.
