Abhay Aima, an elderly banker, dies in Bandra


Aima was a seasoned banker who formerly held the position of Group Head at HDFC Bank for Third Party Products, NRI, International Consumer Business, and Equities & Private Banking Group.


63-year-old renowned banker Abhay Aima unexpectedly died away on April 27 at 4:10 p.m. at his Bandra, Mumbai, home. A statement claims that the veteran of banking would have his last rites held at Santacruz Crematorium. "Aima will be remembered for his big heart, kindness and affection to everyone he met," added the statement.


Aima was a seasoned banker who formerly held the position of Group Head at HDFC Bank for the NRI, International Consumer Business, Third Party Products, and Private Banking Group. His role in the success narrative of HDFC Bank has earned him recognition as a pioneer. He worked with Citibank before moving on to join HDFC Bank in 1995. Aima joined the advisory board of Spice Money, a rural fintech and digital services startup, in 2021 after retiring from HDFC Bank in 2020.


Aima was well-known for his contributions to the banking industry, but prior to entering the banking industry, he attended the National Defence Academy and trained to be an Indian Air Force pilot.


Haseeb Drabu, Aima's close friend and former finance minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed amazement in a post on the social networking site X. "Not done, Aima Saeba! My son's bedtime tales with a childhood buddy and me as the main protagonist always break my heart. and by themselves. In a minute, a fifty-year partnership between Mumbai and Srinagar comes to an end. Not just. April 17, 1961 – April 27, 2024 – Abhay Aima. RIP," he said on social media.


Along with some more recent photos of Aima, Drabu wrote, "My friend Aima, no more." 2020 Bandra Eid.
