Foreign Secretary Says PM Modi's Meeting With Departure US President Biden Was Emotional

The bilateral meeting between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Wilmington was poignant since it was their last one in an official capacity because the American president is not running for reelection.

On Saturday, the US President welcomed Modi to his home in Wilmington, Delaware, where they had extensive discussions on a number of important areas pertaining to US-Indian relations. Modi and Biden have become great friends over the last four years and have collaborated on a number of regional and international problems. Biden welcomed Modi to the historic formal state visit last year.

Moment of emotion

"There was definitely an emotional moment during the meeting with President Biden," the statement reads. Early on Sunday morning, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told reporters, "The prime minister was aware that it was, in a sense, to say goodbye meeting with President Biden and the fact that it would be taking place at his personal residence made it all the more special."

In truth, Biden was informed by Modi that the phrase "Jab Dik Ke Darwaze Khul Jaate Hain, to Ghar Ke Darwaaje Bhi Khul Jaate Hain" means that the house's doors open when the heart does.

You have welcomed us into your house, he replied. In New York, on the opening day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's three-day visit to the US, Misri said during a special briefing that "the fact which the doors of your heart have been extended to us has been known for a long time." Thus, there was an intensely intimate and sentimental bond between the two leaders. The gathering location itself was rather unique," he said.
