The National Investigation Agency charged two people on Wednesday in connection with the November 2017 pressure cooker incident that happened in Mangaluru, Karnataka. This explosion has been claimed by Islamic State. The NIA claims that on November 19, 2023, an auto rickshaw carrying a pressure cooker IED detonated due to the terrorist Mohammad Shariq.

On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against two individuals who are suspected of being involved in the November 2018 pressure cooker explosion that occurred in Mangaluru, Karnataka. The explosion was said to have been the work of Islamic State (IS). 



What is the issue as a whole?


When the auto rickshaw on November 19, 2023, burst, the terrorist Mohammad Shariq was inside carrying a pressure cooker IED, according to the NIA. He intended to detonate a low-intensity IED at the Kadri Manjunath Temple in Mangaluru in order to terrorize the Hindu populace, but it exploded inadvertently on route.

A charge was filed in relation to the explosion that occurred on November 23, 2022, under sections 120B, 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act 1908, according to ANI.



What was the terrorists' strategy?


The evidence provided indicates that Syed Shariq and Muhammad Shariq, the other accused party, were both taken into custody by the NIA in July 2023. On Wednesday, the NIA brought charges against both of the defendants.



An NI investigation revealed that Shariq and Syed were involved in a plot to create Khilafat (Sharia law), and they had plotted the explosion with the assistance of an internet handler.
