Telangana Assembly election: TDP chooses not to run in the elections since Chandrababu Naidu is still incarcerated

According to NDTV on Sunday, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has chosen not to run in the Telangana Assembly election that is set for next month.

The TDP chose to abstain from the state election contest since its leader, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is still incarcerated in connection with a purported skill development fraud. Following a meeting between TDP chairman Kasani Gnaneswar and Chandrababu Naidu inside Rajahmundry Central Jail, a resolution to this effect was allegedly made.

According to the report, Chandrababu Naidu informed him that the party may not be able to concentrate on the Telangana polls given the present state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh. He also requested that the president of the party provide an explanation of the situation to party members in the state.

TDP MLA and Chandrababu Naidu's brother-in-law, N. Balakrishna, recently met with TDP leaders in Hyderabad and advised them to prepare for the Assembly elections. Balakrishna has declared that the TDP will run a strong campaign in the Telangana elections. Earlier, TDP chairman Gnaneswar had said that the party will run for a restricted number of Telangana seats.

During a public meeting in Khammam in December, Chandarbabu Naidu expressed confidence that the party would restore glory in Telangana.

The party has a foundation of support in the state, which helped it win two seats in the 2018 Assembly elections and fifteen seats in the 2014 Assembly elections. The BRS's silence on his detention and the fact that they were unable to stage a rally in the Hitech City area in favor of Naidu infuriated his supporters in the state.

The opposition wants "10 samachralu ichcham," whereas the governing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana hopes that voters would choose "Manchiga Chesindu, Malli Vasthadu (He did well, He will come back)". Marusdham (We provided a decade). Let's make a change."
