The wrestlers competing in the Asian Games trials have begun practising at the SAI centre in Sonipat. Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have returned. Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sangeeta Phogat, and Geeta Phogat are a few of these.

As protesting wrestlers begin working out alongside many of their teammates in preparation for the Asian Games trials, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Sonepat is humming once more these days. On June 9, Vinesh Phogat and her cousin Geeta Phogat visited the facility to practise in opposition to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the departing president of the Wrestling Federation of India and a BJP member.

After the National Championship in Gonda in November 2021, Geeta went on maternity leave. She is presently returning to competitive wrestling. Her husband Pawan Saroha, who is a wrestler himself, is beside her. Sangeeta, Geeta's younger sister, and her husband, bronze medallist Bajrang Punia, are positioned in the middle. The national camp for female wrestlers usually takes place at the SAI centre in Lucknow, but after protests against Brij Bhushan, it was moved elsewhere.


The protesting wrestlers have remained away from the mat for a sizable amount of time, according to a Sai source. These wrestlers are now spending the most of their time in the gym. 'Strength building' is another project Sangeeta is engaged in. Vineesh had only arrived on this campus on June 9th, the officer claimed. Geeta also frequently visits. The campus appears to be getting back to business. A year-long national camp for men's freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers is held at the SAI Bahalgarh centre, where Bajrang and his partner Jitendra Kinha have already begun their training.


IOA has asked sports federations for a list of players by June 30.


The wrestlers requested that the Asian Games trials take place in August when they went before the Sports Ministry on Friday, citing the necessity to get physically prepared. By June 30, all sports federations must submit a list of players to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). According to the earlier deadline, the IOA must provide the OCA the names of all the participating Indian players by July 15. But the IOA has written to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to request an extension for wrestling until August 10.
