Kovid-19: 170 new cases of infection were reported in India in a day

 



RT-PCR tests have been made mandatory for travelers arriving from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand from January 1 in view of the fresh surge in infections in some countries.


NEW DELHI: India reported 170 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said in an update on Monday. The number of active cases in the country has come down to 2,371, taking the total number of reported cases to 4,46,80,094 and the death toll to 530,721 since the pandemic hit in 2020.


According to the Health Ministry, active cases comprise 0.01% of the total infections, and the recovery rate has risen to 98.80%.


As of now, Karnataka has 223 active cases, Kerala has 1,369 active cases, Maharashtra has 125, Odisha has 91 cases, Rajasthan has 68 active cases, Tamil Nadu has 65 active cases, Uttar Pradesh has 26 and West Bengal has 56 active cases. .


The country conducted over 85,282 tests in the last 24 hours. So far, more than 220.14 crore vaccine doses have been given to people across the country under the Covid vaccination campaign. 10,336 vaccine doses were given in the last 24 hours.


Meanwhile, INSACOG, under the supervision of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), has kept up with genome sequencing to track down any new variants. Hospitals are also being continuously monitored for Influenza Like Illness (IIL) and SARI cases.


RT-PCR tests have been made mandatory for passengers arriving from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand from January 1 in view of the fresh surge in infections in some countries. They have to upload their report on Air Suvidha portal before travel. This is in addition to the 2% random testing of all international passengers on arrival at Indian airports.


Government officials have warned that the next few days will be crucial in determining the likelihood of a resurgence of Covid-19 cases in India.


Furthermore, to be prepared for any COVID-19 emergency, the Center has directed state governments to ensure that medical oxygen equipment is well installed and functioning properly.
