Kanjhawala case: Delhi Police says accused admitted to having information about woman trapped under car
Even though they were aware of the woman trapped under their gray Maruti Suzuki Baleno, they said they continued to drive out of fear.
The five detained accused in the Kanjhawala hit-and-run case admitted that they knew the woman was trapped under their gray Maruti Suzuki Baleno, but continued to drive out of fear.
An official with knowledge of the situation has claimed that it was in the disclosure made by the accused, which served as the basis for adding section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) in the case. However, the disclosure made by the defendant to the police is not admissible in the court.
The victim, Anjali Kumari, and her friend Nidhi were returning on a scooter from New Year's Eve celebrations on January 1 when a Maruti Suzuki Baleno hit them. While Anjali's body got stuck in the undercarriage of the car as it dragged her for at least 14 kms, Nidhi slid to the side.
Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna, two additional suspects whom the Delhi Police claims were involved in shielding the five criminals, have been taken into custody. While Ashutosh was taken into custody at Budh Vihar in North West Delhi, Ankush appeared at Sultanpuri police station.
Ankush Khanna was on January 7 granted bail by a New Delhi court on suspicion of shielding the accused in the Kanjhawala accident case. Khanna, who appeared on January 6, was relieved after Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal observed that the charges against him were bailable.
In his statement to the police, Khanna reportedly said that accused Deepak was driving the car, remarked the judge, quoting the investigating officer. However, according to the investigation so far, the accused Amit was driving the vehicle.
Amit Khanna, Deepak Khanna, Krishna, Mithun and Manoj Mittal (all in their mid-20s) are the five suspects - who have now been kept in police custody for four days. He has been detained for several offences, including reckless driving on public property and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
According to the police, it was Ashutosh who had given the car to Amit, Krishna, Mithun and Manoj on December 31. After the incident, he tried to help them escape the crime and gave false information to mislead the police. Test.
