Tamil Nadu: Gold biscuits worth ₹8 lakh seized by Customs at Trichy airport

The customs department said the gold pieces weighed 147.5 grams and were of 24 carat purity.

"Seizure of two biscuit-sized gold pieces (100 47.5 gms) of 24-karat purity, altogether weighing 147.5 gms, valued at ₹8,06,530 lakh, which were carried by Air India flight from Singapore to Trichy on 24 December One male who arrived at the airport was from PACS," said the customs department.

Earlier in November, Trichy airport authorities seized a gold piece weighing about 145 grams from a woman passenger at Tiruchirappalli airport.

The gold piece was worth Rs 7,74,590 and was of 24 carat purity.

Officers recovered the yellow metal from 169 grams of paste-like material concealed in the rectum of a female passenger.

"The female passenger arrived at Tiruchirappalli airport from Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia flight AK-23 on November 15," it said in a statement.
