Several dozen people had to be evacuated from their houses after a powerful rainstorm on Friday night caused rivers to overflow, flooding streets, according to local officials.
Floodwaters have cut off Zermatt, an alpine resort, farther west.
Video footage captured on Friday from the town, which is located at the foot of the famous Matterhorn peak, shows flooding rushing through the streets.
The route from Täsch to Zermatt has been blocked, and train services between Visp and Zermatt have been halted, rendering the resort totally unusable.
Authorities had closed off public access to the banks of the Rhône and its offshoot tributaries starting on Friday in anticipation of a possible flood.
