The US military will restart operations at the Gaza pier: Officials

Speaking under oath, the authorities said that the pier was temporarily removed last Friday owing to unfavorable sea conditions and reattached to the beach on Wednesday.

According to two U.S. officials who spoke to Reuters on Wednesday, the U.S. military's intermittent floating dock in Gaza is anticipated to reopen on Thursday in order to discharge much needed humanitarian assistance for Palestinians.

Speaking under oath, the authorities said that the pier was temporarily removed last Friday owing to unfavorable sea conditions and reattached to the beach on Wednesday.

On May 17, relief started to arrive via the American-built dock, and according to the United Nations, 137 trucks carrying around 900 metric tons of goods were delivered to warehouses.

However, after severe weather and security concerns, the pier was damaged by strong waves and required repairs. As a result, the pier has only been open for a limited number of days.

In March, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian terrorists, U.S. President Joe Biden revealed plans to construct a pier for the delivery of humanitarian goods to the 2.3 million people living in Gaza, an enclave governed by Hamas.

According to U.S. military estimates, the pier will need over 1,000 service troops and cost over $200 million during the first ninety days.

How long it will remain active is unknown.

Air Force Major General Patrick Ryder, the spokeswoman, refrained from speculating on when the military could completely suspend pier activities when speaking at the Pentagon on Tuesday.

According to him, the pier has made it possible for more than 3,500 metric tons of relief to arrive to Gaza's borders so far.

"With the caveat that this has always been supposed to be a temporary pier, I'm not aware at this point of any predetermined date of: 'This is when we're going to stop,'" he said to reporters.

"And once more, stepping back here for the big picture: (The United States is) using every available channel to get aid into Gaza, whether by land, sea, or air."
