India's Governors in 2024: Full List, Nomination, Authority, and Pay



The governor serves as a crucial constitutional intermediary between the state and the federal government. In a state, a governor is the same as the president. In India, governors are chosen by the central government for each of the states and union territories. We'll talk about the governors of India in 2024 in this article today. Governor's qualifications:

The minimum age to run for governor should be 35.


When elected to the position, the governor shouldn't have any profitable positions held.


He has to meet all the requirements for membership in the State Legislative Assembly in order to be chosen for the position of Governor.

 

India's Governor Powers


The Chief Minister is chosen by the Governor. The Chief Minister provides recommendations in the formation of the Council of Ministers. and solely carry out the Council of Ministers' recommendations. The governor serves as the chancellor of each and every state university. The Governor also selects the state's advocate general, the Public Service Commission's chairman, and its members. Without the Governor's approval, the Finance Bill cannot be introduced in the Assembly. A bill cannot become law without the governor's approval. The Governor may halt the measure, return it, or forward it to the President at his discretion. However, should the measure be returned by the Governor and subsequently approved by the Assembly without any modifications, the Governor will be obligated to accept it.


Indian Governor Salary


Every state's governor receives a salary of Rs 3 lakh fifty thousand each month. In contrast, the Prime Minister receives a monthly salary of Rs 1 lakh. On the other hand, the Vice President receives a salary of Rs. 4 lakh and the President receives Rs. 5 lakh. Governors get a variety of perks in addition to their pay, which vary from state to state. They also get paid time off. The Governor receives payment for any time off.  Additionally, funding is provided for the upkeep and management of government housing. Furthermore, state and federal government institutions provide free medical treatment.  In addition, the governor is able to rent cars for free if he needs them for any kind of business. Additionally, he receives a travel stipend for him and his family. They get several different forms of allowances in addition to all of this.


Is it possible to arrest or jail a governor?


The Prime Minister, Union Ministers, members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the Chief Minister, and members of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council are free from arrest under Section 135 of the Code of Civil Procedure. This exclusion is limited to civil litigation. not when it comes to crimes.  Under this clause, the Speaker or Chairman of the House must provide their consent before any member of the Parliament, Assembly, or Legislative Council may be arrested or imprisoned. Additionally, no member may be arrested or held 40 days before to, 40 days during, or 40 days after the session, according to this clause.  Furthermore, while the Speaker's or Chairman's order is in effect, no member may be detained or arrested even on the grounds of the Legislative Council, the Assembly, or the Parliament. The same norm applies to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister as they are both members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly or Legislative Council, respectively.


However, the President and the Governor are excluded by Article 361 of the Constitution. This prohibits the arrest or detention of the President or any Governor while they are in office. Not even a single court order can be made against him. Both civil and criminal charges provide immunity to the President and the Governor. He might, however, be taken into custody or arrested after leaving office.
