Adani Ports receives approval for a Rs 45,000 crore expansion project in Mundra: Report

An important component of APSEZ's aspirations for growth in India is Mundrs Ports. Approximately 27% of India's overall cargo and 44% of container freight were handled by APSEZ in FY24.

According to a news story published in The Economic Times on June 17, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has obtained a crucial license for a zone governed by environmental and coastal regulations, allowing it to more than quadruple the capacity of Mundra port at an investment of Rs 45,000 crore.

Adani Group has planned significant expenditures for future and present projects, and Mundra now handles the biggest throughput of any Indian port in history. According to APSEZ, Mundra Port alone is expected to surpass 200 MMT in cargo volume for FY25. Mundra Port, which at the end of FY24 supplied 44% of the cargo volumes, slightly less than a year earlier, continues to lead Adani's India volumes.

In order to increase the port's capacity, APSEZ had applied to the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment. According to the committee's meeting minutes, as cited by the Economic Times, "EAC recommended the call for action for environment and CRZ clearance after examining the information submitted by the project proponent (APSEZ) and detailed discussion held on May 15, 2024." ET had requested response from APSEZ, but APSEZ had not replied. Moneycontrol has not yet confirmed the development on its own.

With the help of the recently acquired Gopalpur Port, the planned commissioning of Vizhinjam Port this year, and WCT next year, APSEZ is well-positioned to achieve 500 MMT of cargo volumes in 2025, according to a statement made earlier in May 2024 by Ashwani Gupta, the company's full-time director and CEO.

Additionally, the Adani Group intends to construct the largest renewable energy manufacturing hub in the world in Mundra, Gujarat. This hub will house production units for nearly every component used in green energy generation facilities, including polysilicon, solar modules, ingots, cells, and even wind turbines.
