A few days before, Khan's candidacy papers were turned down by election authorities, preventing him from running in the parliamentary elections scheduled for February 8.
Khan is charged of referring to Sikandar Sultan Raja, the head of the Election Commission, and other officials as "personal servants" of former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif.
After Khan was removed from office by his political rivals in a no-confidence vote in parliament, Sharif took over in April 2022. Governmental organizations have been suing him in court ever since.
