Punjab News: After consuming meals in the school canteen, 60 pupils get unwell with what seems to be food poisoning

Harjot Singh Bains, the minister of education for Punjab, took notice of the situation and said that the food contractor had been detained and that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) had ordered an inquiry.

Following complaints of nausea and stomach aches, at least 60 kids from a government school in the Sangrur region of Punjab were brought to the hospital. Officials claim that after the pupils ate food in the dorm mess, their health issues became apparent. After taking notice of the situation, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the food contractor had been detained and that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) had ordered a probe.

On Friday, the event happened when eighteen kids from Government Meritorious School in Ghabdan went to the Civil Hospital with complaints of vomiting and stomach aches. After receiving care from medical professionals, around 14 pupils were released from the hospital the same day. However, approximately 40 students were admitted to the hospital on Saturday due to comparable health issues.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) is in charge of a committee that has been formed to look into the matter, according to the District Commissioner. The DC added that the committee is likely to present its conclusions within a week and that it would be composed of a civil surgeon and a tehsildar. According to the official, student blood and food samples have been gathered by the administration for examination.

Parents voiced their ire

The pupils told reporters that they had brought up the matter of subpar food quality with the school administration, but nothing was done about it. The children's parents vented their resentment at the school administration. In a video message, Harjot Singh Bains provided details on the steps taken in the case, including the deployment of a medical team on school property.

The minister said that nine more government noteworthy schools in the state would have their food samples collected by a cooperative task team made up of members from the health and education sectors as a preventative precaution.
