WHO has advised Southeast Asian nations to step up monitoring and advised citizens to take preventative measures because to the rise in respiratory disease cases, which include influenza and the Covid subvariant JN.1.

The COVID-19 virus is continually changing, evolving, and spreading around the world. Even while the available data indicates that the increased danger to public health that JN.1 poses is minimal, we still need to monitor these viruses' development in order to maximize our reaction. In order to do this, nations must improve data sharing, sequencing, and monitoring, according to a statement from Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director of WHO South-East Asia.
