In a money laundering case involving the 2011 visa issue to certain Chinese people, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram made an appearance before the Enforcement Directorate here on Saturday, according to official sources.


The charges in the ED case include the payment of Rs 50 lakh as a bribe by a key official of the Vedanta group subsidiary Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), which was establishing a power plant in Punjab, to Karti and his close colleague S Bhaskararaman. was carrying out, according the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) FIR.


The CBI complaint is the basis for the ED case. In accordance with the guidelines of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the 52-year-old MP from Tamil Nadu's Sivagangai Lok Sabha constituency will provide a statement to the agency.


Karti had previously given papers to the agency and said that the ED probe was a "fishing and frolicking" operation. Having failed to show up on December 12 and 16, he requested an extension to gather the necessary paperwork.
