Despite the company's dedication to supporting such programs, billionaire Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc., said that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts substitute prejudice with "individual discrimination," branding them as "propaganda." Tagged with the term "word".

"DEI must die," wrote Elon Musk on his privately owned social media network X, which was once Twitter. The goal was to end discrimination, not to replace it with more specific forms of prejudice. Propaganda terms like "diversity, equality, and inclusion" are used to justify racism, sexism, and other -isms. It has the same moral wrongness as any other kind of sexism and racism. It is not correct to change the target class!"

The maestro of controversy has also pinned this post on his official account to emphasize his point. In reaction to Musk's remarks, Tesla has not yet released a comment.

Notwithstanding Musk's opinions, Bloomberg notes that Austin-based Tesla, which has facilities in Texas, California, Nevada, and New York, has continuously emphasized its DEI initiatives.

The corporation included these initiatives into its yearly impact reports after releasing its first DEI report in December 2020. According to Tesla's 2022 Impact Report, the firm is a "majority-minority" employer since a significant portion of its workforce is drawn from historically underrepresented populations in the US.

The study claims that Tesla has run recruitment campaigns that are aimed at women and students from historically black colleges and universities as well as institutions that serve the Hispanic community. It has also organized internal events to honor employee diversity, formed an Employee Resource Group (ERG), and in 2022 launched an internal DEI periodical.

encountered legal difficulties

Notably, however, Tesla will confront legal issues in 2022. A complaint was filed by the California Civil Rights Agency, charging "rampant racism" directed at black employees at Tesla's Fremont manufacturing. Similar to this, Tesla was sued by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in September 2023 for claims that Black employees were subjected to racial harassment.

According to Tesla's impact report, "It is everyone's duty to promote inclusion." Employees are invited to join Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) "—led by passionate individuals who care about creating an established neighborhood experience within Tesla" and are introduced to our DEI values from the first day of onboarding.
