A jury has been informed that after "clicking" with another lady at a party, a man was crushed to death by his girlfriend.

Alice Wood, 23, is charged with killing her 24-year-old lover Ryan Watson on May 6, 2022, in Road Heath, Cheshire.

Partygoers who had spent the early portion of the evening with the couple testified at Chester Crown Court.

Ms. Wood refuted claims of murder.

The court heard that the two had attended a 60th birthday celebration for a client of the Headway brain injury charity, where Mr. Watson provided assistance.

Tiffany Ferriday testified that she was seated at a table with Mr. Watson and Ms. Wood.

"Ryan was the light of the table," she said. He was getting everyone engaged and dancing with all of us. Alice didn't seem to be really engaged."

It was acknowledged by Ms. Ferriday that she and Mr. Watson had "clicked" and that Ms. Wood had been "largely left out" of the discussion.

In addition, he reported to the court that he got the impression that Ms. Wood had been following him all night.

an effort to scare

The prosecution claims that Ms. Wood "lost her temper" and murdered Mr. Watson by slamming her Ford Fiesta on him and following him 158 meters under the vehicle.

The couple's neighbor Ellen Abbott said in a statement made out in court that she heard two males coming back to their Oak Street house that evening.

"I heard Ryan scream, 'Oh my God, not like that again,'" the witness said. I then heard footsteps go by."

Rebecca Callister, another local resident, said in court that she heard metal rattling at about 23:00 BST and observed a guy fighting with someone inside a vehicle.

"It looked like it was designed to scare and scare them a bit," she stated after seeing the automobile approaching the guy.
