On July 7 of this year, bids were requested from producers of electrolyzers.

The selection of green hydrogen producers to establish 4,50,000 tons of green hydrogen production facilities under the Strategic Intervention for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program (Mode-1-Tranche-I) was announced by the state-owned SECI on July 10. Bids were also solicited for. According to the SECI announcement, out of the 1.5 GW of available capacity, 21 businesses have submitted bids for the incentive to establish an annual production capacity of 3.4 GW of electrolyzers.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), which would cost Rs 19,744 crore and be implemented in January 2023, was authorized by the Union Cabinet with the intention of making India a center for the production of this clean energy worldwide.

By 2030, the mission is anticipated to have developed a 5 million metric tons per year capability for producing green hydrogen. India aspires to become a worldwide center for the production, use, and export of green hydrogen and its byproducts. This is anticipated to encourage multilateral participation and collaboration with several worldwide initiatives pertaining to fuel cells and hydrogen.

In the first phase, the mission calls for the installation of two green hydrogen hubs. Three significant ports—Deendayal, Paradip, and VO Chidambaranar (Tuticorin) ports—have been designated by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways to be developed as hydrogen hubs.
