Two locations were chosen for vertical drilling, and they are both on the banks of Silkyara, the high-altitude tunnel now under construction. On the fifteenth day of the rescue operation, SJVN began vertical drilling operations at the top of the tunnel on the hill. On the first day of vertical drilling, around 20 meters of drilling were completed. Vertical boring will be completed by Thursday, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Delhi, New. On Sunday, rescue personnel started digging vertically in the slope above the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel. On the first day of using this innovative technique, around 20 meters of drilling were done to reach the 41 workers who had been stuck within the tunnel for 14 days.
One of the five alternatives for which preliminary work was started a few days ago is vertical drilling. In order to access the tunnel, rescue personnel had to excavate 86 meters. By dusk, massive drilling machinery had reached a depth of around 19.5 meters. Mahmood Ahmed, Managing Director of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), said that the vertical digging should be completed by Thursday provided no obstacles arise.
Pipes that are 700 mm diameter are being placed while drilling continues to provide for worker escape. Following the installation of horizontal drilling from the Silkyara end of the tunnel, the vertical boring option was determined to be the optimal choice.
On day 15, vertical drilling commenced.
