Starting today, only Haryana-based electric, CNG, and BS-VI diesel buses will be permitted entry into Delhi
Beginning on July 1st, 2020, all buses traveling to Delhi from cities or towns in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh would only be electric, CNG, and BS-VI diesel vehicles, according to the city government's transport department.
All buses traveling from Haryana to the nation's capital must henceforth operate on electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel, per a directive from the Delhi administration. Starting on Wednesday, buses traveling from the NCR areas of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan must also adhere to similar regulations.
Beginning on July 1st, 2020, all buses traveling to Delhi from cities or towns in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh would only be electric, CNG, and BS-VI diesel vehicles, according to the city government's transport department.
Starting on November 1, only diesel buses that comply with BS VI, CNG, or electricity will be permitted to run between Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) cities and towns of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This announcement was made by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
The ultimate objective of the initiative is to switch to electric cars while addressing the air pollution that the diesel-powered buses operating in the area are causing. The transport department sent a circular to Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana outlining the bus regulations that would take effect on Wednesday.
"On November 1, 2023, all state government bus services between any town or city in the state of Haryana and Delhi would only be run by EV, CNG, or BS-VI diesel buses. The circular said, "This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among other things.
"All bus services between any NCR city/town" in Rajasthan and Delhi, as well as to any other city or town in the NCR, should be electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel ones, according to the circular, which also stated the rules for buses from Rajasthan.
Starting on January 1, 2024, all bus services from Rajasthan's non-NCR districts to Delhi must be provided by EV, CNG, or BS-VI diesel buses. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among other things," the statement said.
Uttar Pradesh also received similar directives.
Commencing on November 1, 2023, all bus services between any Uttar Pradesh state town or NCR city and Delhi would only be run by EV, CNG, or BS-VI diesel buses. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among others.
"BS-VI diesel compliant buses must be used for all 1,433 state government buses that travel between non-NCR portions of the state and NCR areas of neighboring states starting on July 1, 2024. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among other things," the statement said.
Any departure, according to the circular, would be seen as a breach of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, potentially leading to legal action under the Act.
Legal restrictions on the quantity of air pollutants, such as carbon monoxide and particulate matter, that Indian cars are permitted to release are imposed by the Bharat Stage emission regulations.
The enhancement of engine design, fuel economy, and pollution control are the main goals of these regulations. Oil firms offer gasoline that complies with BS-VI requirements, which is said to be the world's cleanest fuel, while vehicle manufacturers produce cars that fulfill these new regulations.
To ensure that the buses arriving in the capital are complying with the rules, the agency has stationed eighteen enforcement teams at several border crossings.
