Videos of two Israeli captives detained in Gaza have been uploaded by the armed branch of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization.

For humanitarian and medical reasons, the gang said that it was ready to release a 77-year-old lady and a 13-year-old kid, but only if "appropriate measures" were taken.

Israel refused to comment on whether the films will be made public, but it did characterize them as a significant evidence of life.

That would contribute to the "psychological terror" of the captors, it claimed.

The two captives can be seen addressing the camera in the footage.

The video, which lasts for more than three minutes, will not be shown by the BBC. Under international humanitarian law, hostages and prisoners of war are protected, and the BBC never airs anything that may have been shot under duress.

Isaac Herzog, the president of Israel, had played down rumors that a deal to release some of the captives in Gaza may soon be reached.

According to the Israeli military, 242 persons are being kept captive in Gaza. Israeli soldiers have liberated four captives and released one more.

According to Hamas, its captives are stashed in "safe places and tunnels" within Gaza. As previously reported by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), among the captives are 20 youngsters and ten to twenty adults over the age of sixty.

On Thursday, Mr. Herzog said that he had not come across any significant information on potential disclosures.
