AAP is planning a national "referendum" to ask voters whether Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should flee the government if he is imprisoned

According to Pathak, the AAP planned to stage a "referendum" in Delhi where they would visit every home and ask people whether they thought Kejriwal should step down in the event that the ED arrested him or if he should continue to lead the government from behind bars.

On Tuesday, the AAP said that it will hold a "referendum" in Delhi and other regions of the nation to determine whether Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should step down in the event that the Enforcement Directorate arrests him or go on leading the government from behind bars.

At a meeting with AAP council members, Kejriwal made the decision. However, the party did not provide a date for the "referendum". Kejriwal ignored the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons, claiming it was "politically motivated," after receiving one last week for questioning related to the ED's money laundering investigation into the purported Delhi excise policy scandal.

AAP MLA as well as Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) incharge Durgesh Pathak said that after the AAP demolished the BJP in Delhi, the party is now planning to put Kejriwal in prison on the false pretense of his resignation as chief minister and the AAP's eventual demise. "The BJP is utterly devastated anywhere the AAP is running for office. It now realizes that the only way out is to lock up AAP leaders in a fictitious case and prevent them from being released," he accused. All of the AAP council members asked Kejriwal not to consider resignation during the one and a half-hour meeting on Tuesday, Pathak stated that even if "Modi ji gets him arrested and runs the government from jail to expose intrigues against him."

After hearing what the council members had to say, Kejriwal promised to engage party officials and workers in Punjab and other regions of the nation before making a final decision. According to Pathak, the AAP planned to stage a "referendum" in Delhi where they would visit every home and ask people whether they thought Kejriwal should step down in the event that the ED arrested him or if he should continue to lead the government from behind bars. He noted that the exercise would also be conducted via open forums in other regions of the nation.

In February of this year, Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister, was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the Delhi excise policy issue. The Supreme Court recently denied his request for bail. In line with its money laundering investigation into the purported scandal, the ED conducted an hours-long search at AAP MP Sanjay Singh's house last month, leading to his detention.
