Today, the Maratha community in Pune is organizing a candlelight march

Maharashtra: According to a report by Hindustan Times, Maratha community people from Pune district will conduct a torch march tonight, October 28, from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue nearby Shivajinagar to the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Statue in Deccan.

They have initiated a chain strike in solidarity of Manoj Jarange Patil, a quota campaigner, who is staging a hunger protest to raise awareness of the Maratha reservation problem.

Early today, protesters from the Maratha community also stopped the Pune-Nashik highway close to Chakan, which had an impact on traffic. Nevertheless, the police officers subsequently cleared the road.

CM Eknath Shinde said on Tuesday that he is cognizant of the suffering and anguish experienced by the Maratha people.

"I understand their anguish and sadness. A curative plea was filed and allowed before the Supreme Court, which had previously thrown down the Maratha quota, and the Justice Shinde (retd) committee is operating around the clock. A window has been opened as a result."

When Jarange's supporters allegedly faced a police baton charge in Antarwali Sarati hamlet in Jalna district during his hunger strike protest in September, the Maratha quota issue acquired significance in Maharashtra politics.

Following many rounds of talks between Jarange Patil and the government-appointed delegates last week, the Shinde administration released a resolution granting certificates to Marathas in Marathwada who had documents dating back to the Nizam rule.

Jarange Patil, on the other hand, has rejected the state government's determination and said that he would not break his fast until the Maharashtra government grants Kunbi certificates to every Maratha.

In Mumbai's Bandra neighborhood, on October 19, the corpse of Maratha quota campaigner Sunil Kawale was discovered hanging from a light post beside a flyover. In his suicide letter, he had asked for the community's quota.

It's important to note that the state government has placed an advertising describing a number of programs for the Maratha community in large publications. The advertising also emphasizes how the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota benefits the Maratha population in terms of jobs and admittance to schools.
