MP Election: The Congress compares Jai-Veeru in Sholay to Kamal Nath-Digvijaya Singh, but the BJP twists the comparison

In order to illustrate the relationship between Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kamal Nath and senior politician Digvijaya Singh, Congressman Randeep Surjewala used a comparison from the film Sholay. Surjewala said on Saturday, "The relationship between Dharmendra as well as Amitabh Bachchan (in Sholay) is the identical as between Digvijaya Singh as well as Kamal Nath," refuting rumors of a schism within the Madhya Pradesh Congress.

"Neither 'Gabbar Singh' (the film's main villain) could get them into a fight (in movie) as well as will BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) Gabbar Davidson be able to get it done here," Surjewala said during a news conference in Bhopal.

Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra portrayed the characters of "Jai" and "Veeru" in the classic film "Sholay." The two protagonists in the film had a unique type of relationship. In the film, the two buddies escape from prison and are subsequently recruited by a retired police officer to take on the notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh.

The BJP responded to Surjewala's remarks by using a modified version of the Jai-Veeru comparison. The BJP claimed that, like Dharmendra and Bachchan's characters in the film, Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh were "jail escapees" and dishonest.

"These were the fictional people who broke out of prison. The same is true for Madhya Pradesh's Mr. Bantadhar (also known as Digvijaya Singh according to the BJP) and Corruptionnath (also known as Nath). Congress employees have been plundered. Whenever they had the chance, they plundered the populace. News agency PTI reported state BJP leader Pankaj Chaturvedi as stating, "No one was spared from these two."

According to PTI, earlier this month, a video apparently showed Kamal Nath urging his party members to "tear" Digvijaya Singh's garments because he had refused to provide a ticket to a Shivpuri politician. Talks of a schism in the party over candidate selection were stoked by the episode. Nonetheless, the previous chief ministers attempted to present a unified front and make light of the incident.

Surjewala refuted claims on Saturday that there was a schism between Congressmen, saying that Digvijaya Singh, Kamal Nath, and all other party members were collaborating for Madhya Pradesh's development.

On Friday, the BJP made fresh accusations that Digvijaya Singh had withdrawn off the campaign trail in the wake of the "dispute" over ticket allocation. While the BJP used the video to attack the Congress, Nath made it clear that their relationship went beyond politics.

Elections for all 230 of Madhya Pradesh's Assembly seats are scheduled on November 17. On December 3, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2023 Result will be announced.
