Israel's ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, responded to India's criticism of the Hamas assault by saying that India occupies a major place in the world and that its support for Israel is based on knowledge of terrorism rather than ignorance.


Additionally, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support of Israel.


"There are many individuals voicing their support on our social media platforms. And we respect that. We really appreciate it. I'll explain why. India is a highly significant nation in the globe, to start with. Second, India is in the unique position of having experience with terrorism. A day after Hamas struck Israel, he added, "So it comes from a perspective of understanding and not of ignorance.




"We are grateful from the huge support we got from India, from the Prime Minister, thru a few ministers who called me, corporate executives, civil servants," Gilon said.


After Hamas militants unexpectedly crossed the border from Gaza on Saturday, Israel formally declared war on the organization. In response to the rocket attacks by Hamas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared his support for Israel.


"Absolutely surprised to hear of the terrorist assaults in Israel. The innocent victims' families are in our thoughts and prayers. We support Israel throughout this trying time," PM Modi said on X (previously Twitter).


Hamas is the problem right now, according to Naor Gilon.


Naor Gilon said to the media that Israel will reserve itself for the choice of when and how to respond. He said that Hamas is now the main focus. Others who assist the terrorists, he continued, will be dealt with later.


Naor further said that victims of the terrorist incident included both Israelis and individuals from other countries. The information about the dead will shortly be made public by the authorities.

On Sunday, the death toll from Hamas's rocket assaults and ground offensive surpassed 400, with an additional 2000 people reportedly wounded. According to sources cited by the Times of Israel, many Israelis have been held captive in Gaza.
