ICC World Cup 2023: South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock, and Aiden Markram lead the team to a record-breaking 428 points

Aiden Markram's 49-ball century against shell-shocked Sri Lanka on Saturday gave South Africa the fastest tournament century and helped them set the best World Cup total ever of 428.

The Proteas surpassed Australia's previous World Cup record of 417 against Afghanistan in Perth in 2015.

Their 428-5 total ranked ninth among all one-day international matches.

Markram went on to score 106 runs, shattering the previous World Cup mark of 50 balls by Ireland's Kevin O'Brien against England in Bengaluru in 2011.

In the first World Cup game to feature three tons in the same innings, Rassie van der Dussen (108) and Quinton de Kock (100) both scored centuries.

With the bat, it was a fantastic day for us. We had to put in a lot of effort early on against the swinging ball and throughout the middle overs, according to Van der Dussen.

"We have a plan on how to set things up for the middle order people. It's amazing to watch Aiden Markram perform like that.

With bowlers Matheesha Pathirana (1-95) and Kasun Rajitha (1-90) allowing more than 180 runs from 20 overs, Sri Lanka's numbers were dismal.
