 Fourth-year IIT student from Kharagpur discovered dead in dorm room; suicide suspected


According to ANI, a student in his fourth year at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, was discovered dead in his dorm room on Tuesday. K Kiran Chandra, the dead, was discovered hanged in his dorm room. Chandra came from the institution's Department of Electrical Engineering.




The deceased lived in Telangana's Medak district, according to the police


The father of the deceased son asked, "Why is there such high levels of stress among IIT students? He was under stress because of a project, according to ANI.


In a statement, the institution highlighted that the student "chose the path of self-harm," and the police indicated they are looking into the situation.


According to a statement from IIT Kharagpur, "The Students, Staff and Faculty members of IIT Kharagpur sadly mourn the tragic passing of K Kiran Chandra, a 4th year Dual Degree graduate in the Department of Electrical Engineering, with a feeling of complete shock. On the evening of October 17, 2023, the boarder at the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hall of Residence decided to hurt himself.


The institution further disclosed that Kiran Chandra was in the dorm room with his two buddies an hour before he passed away. He was brought to the BC Roy Technology Hospital where he was pronounced dead after being discovered hanging.


K Kiran Chandra was at his hostel room with two other people up till about 7:30 PM. The other two pupils then departed for their academic pursuits. In the aftermath, his room was discovered to be locked from the inside by other LBS Hall residents at 8.30 PM. He was discovered hanging when the door was pried open. He was taken right away to the BC Roy Technology Hospital by security and other students. Despite all of the physicians' efforts, Kiran was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m., according to the institution.
