In the meanwhile, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has been chosen to serve as the interim prime minister of Pakistan, according to Raja Riaz, the departing leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. Anwar ul Haq Kakar, the interim prime minister of Pakistan, is a senator in that country's upper chamber. He joined the Balochistan Awami Party in 2018 and has been a senator since then. He will serve as caretaker prime minister up to the Pakistani elections.


On Saturday, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) of Pakistan released details on this choice. After today's meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and departing Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA), Raja Riaz, the much anticipated news was made. The two leaders' meeting resulted in the selection of Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar for this esteemed position. PM Shehbaz and PM Riaz have advised President Alvi over the appointment of Kakar as interim prime minister, according to a press release from the PMO. This was earlier revealed by Riyaz in a talk with the media outside the Prime Minister's house following his meeting with PM Shahbaz.


The President received this suggestion

President Arif Alvi reminded Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leader Riaz in a letter that they have three days following the dissolution of the National Assembly to submit a nominee for the temporary prime minister in accordance with Article 224A. In the meanwhile, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has been chosen to serve as the interim prime minister of Pakistan, according to Raja Riaz, the departing leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.


Shahbaz provided cues

The choice of the interim prime minister will be determined by Saturday, according to earlier comments made by Shahbaz Sharif on Friday. According to Sharif, the President has asked him and the opposition leader (Raja Riaz) to come up with a name for the acting prime minister by August 12. Raja Riyaz and Sharif, according to Sharif, will decide on the name by Saturday. Before making a decision, the alliance partners would be consulted privately about this, he added.


A provision in this clause allows for the appointment of a caretaker PM

According to Article 224(1A) of the Pakistani Constitution, President Alvi stated in the letter that the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the departing National Assembly may suggest a qualified candidate for the office of Caretaker Prime Minister by August 12. Following the dissolution of the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, Sharif stated the constitution allows for the appointment of a caretaker prime minister for a period of eight days. The National Assembly's departing opposition leader and the prime minister have three days to choose an interim prime minister, under the constitution.


The issue will be sent to the parliamentary committee if the two parties are unable to agree on a name. The Election Commission of Pakistan would have two days to select a caretaker prime minister from a list of names given with the commission if the committee is unable to reach a conclusion.
