Ranchi. Caste censuses are being proposed by the Jharkhand government. The Jharkhand Assembly will approve a proposal on this and send it to the Centre.

This information was provided in the House on Friday during the government's response to MLA Pradeep Yadav's motion for calling attention. He said that the caste census in Bihar had also received approval from the Patna High Court.

Pradeep Yadav, a state legislator, called for a caste census by pointing out that although there is a 50–60% backward caste population in the state, there is only a 14% reservation for this caste.

Demand for raising the reservation cap

Additionally, he pushed for a 27 percent increase in the backward caste reservation cap. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister responded by stating that the law voted by the Vidhan Sabha to increase the reservation limit was originally sent to the Raj Bhavan for approval; however, the Raj Bhavan sent the bill to the state government rather than the Vidhan Sabha.

Now that the governor has been asked to do so, the measure still hasn't been sent to the assembly. The administration is making every effort to get the bill before the Vidhan Sabha as soon as possible.
