Nearly 50 employees are let go by Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan

Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Meta, and his wife Priscilla Chan are said to have let go of 48 staff from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).

The affected workers will reportedly get 16 weeks of basic pay, as well as health insurance and a $10,000 severance payment.

Despite the fact that a headcount for 2023 is not yet available, the Washington Post reports that CZI employed 450 people in 2020.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was established in 2015 to assist in tackling some of society's most difficult problems, such as eliminating sickness and enhancing education as well as meeting community needs.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's goal is to contribute to the creation of a more inclusive, just, and healthy future for all people via cooperation, resource provision, and technological development.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (previously known as Facebook), wrote a letter to his workforce earlier when he announced a new round of layoffs involving roughly 10,000 people.

To boost productivity, the CEO has previously asked staff to work from the office. He also added that according to the company's data, those who came into the office did better than those who worked remotely.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, "as part of our Year of Efficiency, we'll concentrate on understanding this further and finding ways that will make sure people build the connections they need to work effectively."

"In the interim, I urge everyone to look for additional chances to collaborate with their coworkers in person... Time spent in person promotes communication and increases productivity, Mark Zuckerberg continued.

The statement "I just shared this update on our Year of Efficiency with Meta employees" appeared in CEO Mark Zuckerberg's article on layoffs.

Our efficiency work is divided into numerous simultaneous workstreams that aim to boost developer productivity and tooling, optimise dispersed work, eliminate wasteful procedures, and more. I've made an effort to be transparent about the work that is being done, and although I know that many of you are inspired by it, I also acknowledge that the thought of impending organisational changes breeds anxiety. In order to get past this time of uncertainty and concentrate on the crucial work that lies ahead, my aim is to implement these organisational changes as quickly as feasible this year, Mark Zuckerberg continued.
