Delhi Service Bill: Following its passage by both Houses of Parliament, the Delhi Service Bill has also received the President's approval.


After the Delhi Service Bill was approved by both Houses of Parliament, the President granted his approval to it. This results in the ordinance from May 19 becoming a law. The Delhi administration will now appeal the modified statute after previously challenging the ordinance in the Supreme Court.




The Parliament's monsoon session saw the introduction of the Delhi Services Bill. On August 3, the Lok Sabha approved this measure. The Centre had little trouble getting the law enacted because of the Lok Sabha's majority. The administration faced difficulties passing the law in the Rajya Sabha due to its smaller size, but it was successful there as well, and on August 7 the upper chamber also approved the bill. passed.

In the Rajya Sabha, the measure received 131 votes in favour and 102 votes against it. All members of the India Alliance voted against the measure in response to the Aam Aadmi Party's petition. The bill was rejected by Congress as well. However, alliance participant and RLD leader Jayant Chowdhary chose not to cast a ballot.


Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, described it as a "black day" for Indian democracy after the Rajya Sabha passed the measure. According to Kejriwal, this measure will prevent the elected Delhi government from carrying out its duties.
