As the platform reacted to security criteria, Telegram will be unblocked in Iraq

A ban on the Telegram messaging app that was put in place earlier this week will be lifted on Sunday, according to the telecommunications ministry of Iraq, which cited security issues and data leaks involving official state entities and civilians.

Iraqis frequently use the app for communicating, reading news, and sharing material. A significant quantity of personal information, including Iraqis' names, residences, and familial relationships, may be found on some channels.

The decision to lift the ban, according to the ministry, was made after "the company that owns the platform answered to the guidelines of the homeland security agency that called on the company to disclose those organisations that leaked citizens' data."

The statement said, "The Company also emphasised its complete willingness to interact with the necessary authorities...

A member of Telegram's press team stated in response to the request from Reuters for comment that "posting private data unauthorised consent is forbidden by Telegram's principles of service and such content is constantly removed by our moderators."

"We can confirm that the various of channels that exchanged personal information were has been deleted by our moderators. We can also vouch that Telegram was not asked for or supplied any sensitive user information, though.

The corporation was asked last week by the ministry to shut down platforms that leak information about official state institutions as well as citizen personal information, but the company did not comply.
