Ranchi: After six years, Jharkhand MLA wages are going to increase. This is what the assembly committee has advised. A suggestion for raising the MLAs' salaries was made during the Vidhan Sabha's budget session. His pay should be enhanced, according to a resolution that the lawmakers brought out in unanimity.

After that, a committee was established with Ramchandra Chandravanshi, a prominent BJP MLA and former minister, as its head. The report from this committee has been delivered to the Vidhan Sabha.

What will the monthly pay be?

The Vidhansabha committee has proposed raising the MLAs' base pay to Rs 60,000 per month in its report. MLAs now receive a monthly allowance of Rs 40,000 on top of their base pay, which is close to Rs 2 lakh. If all goes according to plan, the assembly will vote to increase the MLAs' pay during the monsoon session.

It is significant that during the budget session, the argument for restricting MLA compensation was made, citing growing inflation. All political parties' legislators agreed with it. A Vidhansabha committee was established in consideration of the MLAs' opinions.

Although there has been a history of disputes around MLA pay increases, if the Vidhan Sabha approves the suggestion, it won't take effect for another six years. During this time, inflation has considerably soared. The remuneration of the MLAs was changed earlier in 2017.

varying salaries for everyone

The base pay for the Chief Minister was raised from Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 per month at the re-fixation of the prior salary. While the MLAs' monthly compensation was hiked from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000.

The Leader of the Opposition now gets a base salary of Rs. 65,000 per month instead of Rs. 50,000. In addition, the Speaker's base pay was doubled from Rs. 55 000 to Rs. 78 000 per month.

In addition, the remuneration for chief whips, deputy chief whips, and whips was set at Rs. 55,000, Rs. 50,000, and Rs. 45,000, respectively, each month.
