Odisha Train Tragedy: According to the initial inquiry into the train tragedy, the Coromandel Express rail that crashed rather than taking the main path, just before Bahanga Bazar station, proceeded on the 'Loop Line' and collided with a cargo train parked there. It is believed that the coaches of the damaged Coromandel Express on the next track were struck by the coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express before overturning as well.
The victims' families are still working to piece together information about the bodies of their loved ones six days after the fatal railway disaster in Balasore, Odisha. To offer their DNA samples and claim the bodies housed at AIIMS and five other facilities, they have all assembled at AIIMS in Bhubaneswar.
The father of one of the victims told ANI that the hospital would not release his son's remains because his DNA report had not yet been received. My son was killed in a train accident, he stated. He was accompanied by three other people. One is in the hospital and two have been located.
My kid has been found here, but they won't give me his body. The thread he had tied in my son's hand helped me identify him. Only after receiving the DNA report will they turn over the body. I am here to take my son's body with me; I have no money to eat.
Since they had nowhere to stay and had provided their DNA samples, many of them have gone back to their homes. Others have given up hope of locating the bodies of their relatives and are preparing to return home.
The sibling of one of the victims stated, "According to the officials, they have not yet located my brother's body. I'm considering going home right now. It's been three days, and I've done everything I can to make it stop. I provided my DNA, and now I'm supposed to come back.
So far, 30 samples have been collected altogether. The administration has made the decision to transfer all of the DNA samples to AIIMS in Delhi in the interim. Due to the 7-8 day wait for the DNA report to be shared, the deceased remains are still sitting in the cold room unclaimed.
The death toll from the Balasore railway tragedy has now been increased to 288, according to Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena on Tuesday. 288 corpses were sent, and 193 of them were sent to Bhubaneswar and 94 to Balasore.
According to the chief secretary of Odisha, 110 of the 193 remains that were carried to Bhubaneswar have been identified, while 83 have not. Officials had earlier on Monday stated that 101 remains had not yet been recognised. According to Rinkesh Roy, Divisional Railway Manager of East Central Railway, over 200 patients are still being treated in various hospitals throughout the state of Odisha.
