Geological Survey of India to take up 111 public good projects in the next financial year

 


Focused on baseline data generation and mineral exploration programs with special emphasis on exploration of strategically-important and fertilizer minerals

New Delhi: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) will undertake 111 public health and public good geology activities with focus on baseline data generation and mineral exploration programs during the next financial year, the Ministry of Mines said in a statement.

“For 2023-24, a total of 966 standard programs have been finalized by GSI in five missions. The focus has been on baseline data generation and mineral exploration programs with special emphasis on exploration of strategically-important and fertilizer minerals," the mines ministry said.

In addition, GSI will conduct 115 courses for training and capacity building of its staff and external officials, including geoscientists from various states.

Established in 1851, GSI is one of the oldest survey organizations in the world.

Over the years, GSI has continued to grow and diversify into various geological activities and has made notable contributions in the field of Geology.

The Geological Survey of India has for the first time established lithium inferred resources (G3) of 5.9 million tonnes in the Salal-Haimana area of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir (UT).

The Mines Ministry on Thursday said that 51 mineral blocks, including Lithium and Gold, have been handed over to the respective state governments.

Out of these 51 mineral blocks, 5 blocks pertain to gold and other blocks pertain to commodities like potash, molybdenum, base metals etc. spread over 11 states of Jammu & Kashmir (UT), Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, . Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The blocks were prepared on the basis of work done by GSI since the field season 2018-19.
