Center disbursed ₹2.24 lakh crore to 11.5 crore farmers under its scheme: Govt

 


• Of this amount, more than ₹1.7 lakh crore has been transferred since the lockdown due to the Covid pandemic

The government told Parliament on Friday that Rs 2.24 lakh crore has been transferred directly into the accounts of 11.5 crore farmers across the country under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, "The government has paid over Rs 2.24 lakh crore to Indian farmers and their families. Out of this amount, more than ₹1.7 lakh crore has been transferred since the lockdown due  and has helped the farmers of the country to manage their daily expenses."

“The funds disbursed under the initiative have acted as a catalyst in rural economic growth, helped address the credit crunch for farmers, and increased investment in agricultural inputs. The scheme has enhanced the risk-taking capacity of farmers, prompting them to make risky but comparatively productive investments."

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), one of the largest Central Sector Schemes, is being implemented to meet the financial needs of land holding farmers of the country, subject to certain exclusion criteria relating to high economic status. Is. Under the scheme, a financial benefit of ₹6000/- per year is transferred to the bank accounts of the farmers in three equal installments.

As per the operational guidelines of the scheme, States/UTs identify and verify eligible farmers before uploading the data on the PM-Kisan portal. Benefits are transferred to the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer mode after verification of the data uploaded by the States/UTs on the PM-Kisan portal.

The PM-Kisan scheme was launched in February 2019, with less than two months left in the financial year 2018-19. Based on the verified data received from the respective State/UT Governments, the Central Government was able to transfer the benefits to more than 3 crore beneficiaries. The number of farmers benefitted has increased manifold in the subsequent financial years.
