Budget 2023: Read full text of FM Sitharaman's speech here

 



This budget hopes to build on the foundation laid in the previous budgets and the blueprint prepared for India@100. We envision a prosperous and inclusive India, in which the fruits of development reach all sectors and citizens, especially our youth, women, farmers, OBCs, SCs and STs.

In the 75th year of our independence, the world has recognized the Indian economy as a 'shining star'. Our current year's economic growth is estimated to be 7 percent. It is noteworthy that this is the highest among all major economies. This is despite the huge recession globally due to Covid-19 and war. Hence the Indian economy is on the right track and is marching towards a bright future despite times of challenges.

Today, when Indians stand with their heads held high, and the world applauds India's achievements and successes, we are sure that the elders who fought for India's freedom, will happily bless our efforts going forward. Will give

Resilience amid multiple crises

Our focus on comprehensive reforms and concrete policies, implemented through Sabka Prayas, resulting in public participation and targeted support to those in need, have helped us fare well in difficult times. India's rising global profile is due to several achievements: unique world-class digital public infrastructure, such as Aadhaar, Co-WIN and UPI; Covid Vaccination Campaign in Unparalleled Scale and Speed; Proactive role in frontier areas like achieving climate targets, Mission LiFE and National Hydrogen Mission.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we ensured that no one sleeps hungry with a plan to supply free food grains to over 80 crore persons for 28 months. Continuing with our commitment to ensure food and nutritional security, we are implementing the scheme to supply free food grains for the next one year to all Antyodaya and priority households with effect from 1 January 2023 under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY). have been The entire expenditure of about ₹2 lakh crore will be borne by the Central Government.

G20 Presidency: Driving the global agenda through challenges

In these times of global challenges, the G20 chairmanship provides us with a unique opportunity to strengthen India's role in the world economic order. Achievements since 2014: Leaving no one behind

The efforts of the government since 2014 have ensured a better quality of life and a life of dignity for all citizens. The per capita income has more than doubled to ₹1.97 lakh.

In these nine years, the size of the Indian economy has grown from 10th to 5th largest in the world. As reflected in several global indices, we have significantly improved our position as a well-governed and innovative country with a conducive environment for business. We have made significant progress on several Sustainable Development Goals.

The economy has become much more formalized as reflected in EPFO membership to more than double to 27 crore and ₹126 lakh crore in 7,400 crore digital payments through UPI in 2022.

Efficient implementation of several schemes with universalisation of targeted benefits has resulted in inclusive growth. Some of the plans are:

11.7 crore household toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission,

9.6 crore LPG connections under Ujjwala,

220 crore Covid vaccination of 102 crore people,

47.8 crore PM Jan Dhan bank accounts,

Insurance cover for 44.6 crore people under PM Suraksha Bima and PM Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, and

Cash transfer of ₹2.2 lakh crore to over 11.4 crore farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
