Zoom announced avatars, meeting templates and other new features

Video conferencing platform Zoom is rolling out new features for its users. These include the ability to set a personal avatar, create meeting templates, create space for Q&A during the meeting, and more. let's take a look

Zoom users will now be able to set up customizable virtual characters - avatars - for their accounts. Added to a collection of filters, these virtual avatars can be used in meetings. Zoom says the avatars reflect users' movements and facial expressions, allowing them to "present themselves dynamically without the need to be on video and inject more fun and energy into your meetings than static profile pictures." An avatar may be used when a user:

- Don't want to be seen eating but still want to show you're present and engaged

- Seeks to present more dynamic than off-camera static profile picture

- Looking for fun activities for employee onboarding, team bonding exercises and previously mundane meetings

The feature is currently available in beta for all Zoom users globally. The company will add additional facial features, hairstyles and more customization options as the beta progresses.

Adjusting settings for different meeting types on Zoom is now easier with meeting templates. Users can now create, save, and choose from custom meeting templates that automatically apply the right settings for their needs. Some of the templates provided by Zoom are Large Meetings - with automatic captioning and recording, Seminar - ideal for corporate meetings, and K-12 with quiz and poll features.

Threaded messages and responses in in-meeting chat

Threaded messages and responses are intended to enhance the in-meeting chat experience. This will allow meeting participants to create message threads and integrate emoji responses into in-meeting chats. It also helps organize chat messages and clarify which messages participants are responding to. This facility will start at the end of this month.

Q&A at meetings

Currently available for Zoom Webinars, the Q&A feature is now rolling out to Meetings. The Q&A feature allows the meeting host to stay more organized by having a place to view and answer questions. From the Q&A pop-out, the host and co-host can view, answer, or dismiss questions. Hosts will have the ability to determine whether they want meeting participants to be able to see all questions, or only answered ones.

Q&A in meetings is available for Zoom One Business, Zoom One Business Plus, Zoom One Enterprise, and Zoom One Enterprise Plus accounts.
