On Saturday, around 20 laborers used gas cutters to demolish the Malari Inn and Mount View Hotel. They worked in two shifts with the assistance of State Disaster Relief Force personnel. NDRF teams were also present at the spot as a team from the Central Building Research Institute monitored the mechanical demolition.


“10 of our staff (five in each hotel) are anchoring the 20 workers involved in the demolition. We are breaking walls and roofs with hammers and first the debris is thrown on the road. "It will be picked up in trucks after the end of the day," SDRF Inspector Harak Singh told Hindustan Times.


The process of demolishing two "unsafe" hotels in Joshimath began on Thursday, two days after the exercise was stalled due to protests by their owners demanding compensation. Both are being broken together for fear that breaking one at once will cause the other to fall.
