Pee in AI flight: Accused's father says, 'False case, blackmailing possible'

Air India's urine case has taken a new turn. The accused's father came forward in defense of his son and said, 'It was possibly a case of blackmailing'. Shankar Mishra's father Shyam Mishra said, "She (the victim) demanded payment and it was paid. Don't know what happened next. She must have made some demand which might not have been fulfilled due to which she got upset. Maybe there was blackmailing, there would be something".

He said that his son had slept on the flight and after he woke up, Air India staff questioned him.

"False case. My son did not sleep for 30-35 hours. After dinner, he must have consumed drinks provided by the crew and then fell asleep. From my understanding, he was interrogated by the airline staff after he woke up was done," he said.

Shyam Mishra claimed that his son could not have committed such a crime.

"I don't think he would do that. She (the victim) is a 72-year-old woman, she is like his mother. He (the accused, her son) is a 34-year-old man. How can he do it? He is married. And he has an 18-year-old daughter," he said.

When asked about the whereabouts of his son, Shyam Mishra said he was not aware.

"We are also trying to talk to him. I don't know (where he is)... I just want facts to be told, what is being projected is far from the truth," he added. "

Yesterday, the counsel for the accused claimed that he paid ₹15,000 as compensation to the victim and got her belongings cleaned.


A WhatsApp message was allegedly exchanged between them on November 27, in which the woman shared her number with Mishra and accepted a receipt for ₹5,000. However, he said that his daughter and son-in-law are deeply saddened by the incident. He told Mishra that he convinced them not to complain because he was very apologetic and completely unaware of the incident.

The woman wrote in a series of WhatsApp messages that she hoped Mishra would mend his ways and keep his word.

Mishra responded by thanking him and promised that he would never repeat such an act.

The woman apologized to Mishra, saying she was unhappy with the Air India staff.

A day later, in another message, he informed her that her clothes and shoes had been sent to the cleaners and would be "renewed" in a day or two. He also wrote to her about sending ₹10,000 more.

One of the messages sent to the 'air hostess madam' has a screenshot of a transaction of ₹10,000 and ₹5,000 and a note stating that the payment was made as per the woman's request.

The airline on Wednesday said it has imposed a 30-day flying ban on the accused passenger and has constituted an internal panel to probe whether there was lapse on the part of the crew in handling the situation.

Case under sections 294 (obscene act in public place), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult her modesty) based on complaint by female passenger was recorded. modesty of a woman) and 510 (misbehavior in public by a drunken person) of the Indian Penal Code as well as aircraft regulations.
