Maruti Suzuki production hit by semiconductor shortage: CFO

 




• Maruti Suzuki India could not produce around 46,000 units in the October-December period due to semiconductor shortage.

Production at India's biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki continues to be impacted as semiconductor supplies still remain unpredictable, company CFO Ajay Seth says.

In an analyst call, Seth said, "Limited visibility of electronic components is a challenge in planning our production. Shortages of electronic components are still limiting our production volumes."

Noting that the supply situation for electronic components remains unpredictable, he added, "Our supply chain, engineering, production and sales teams are working towards maximizing the amount of production from available semiconductors."

The company's pending customer orders at the end of Q3, 2022 increased to approximately 3.63 lakh units.

The auto major is now working on ways to maximize its production from the available supply of electronic components to deal with the situation, reports news agency PTI.

Semiconductor supply conditions have improved in Q3 of 2022 compared to Q2. However, due to semiconductor shortage, Maruti Suzuki India could not produce around 46,000 units in the October-December period.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki's Manesar and Gurugram plants have a cumulative production capacity of 1.5 million units per annum. From the Gujarat facility, the company has access to an additional 7.5 lakh units.

Responding to question about MSI's sales growth outlook, Rahul Bharti, executive officer, corporate affairs, Maruti Suzuki India, said: "The demand scenario appears to be healthy as of now...the industry is yet to come out with a number is ... what we're thinking is that we should grow faster than the industry."

He also raised concerns about the abnormally high fuel prices, though the company is fine with the entry level of CNG for the time being, he said.

Maruti Suzuki India recently unveiled two new SUVs at the Auto Expo 2023 - the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The former is built on the 4 essentials of an off-road machine - ladder frame chassis, ample body angles, 3-link rigid axle suspension and ALLGRIP PRO (4WD) with low range transfer gear (4L mode).

The Marut Franks, on the other hand, features an aerodynamic silhouette and upright front and rear fascia with roof rails and a wide bonnet. The SUV comes with Black and Bordeaux contrasting color scheme.
