Bad weather conditions disrupted flight operations at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.


On 6 January, inclement weather prevailing over the northern and central regions of India, including the capital city, disrupted flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, delaying the departure of more than eight flights. Several flights arriving at Delhi IGI also reported delays.


According to the live flight information of New Delhi airport, Air India flight to Melbourne was delayed by about 2:25 hours with a new departure time of 16:45 hours. SpiceJet flight to Dubai was similarly delayed, this time from 7:30 hours to 8:30 hours while flight to Jeddah was delayed from 10:25 hours to 13:10 hours.


Air India flight to Kathmandu delayed by 1:02 hours, Warsaw flight delayed by 1:45 hours, Istanbul flight rescheduled from 6:55 to 7:38 hours, Dhaka flight delayed by 6 From :30 to 7:31 hours, flights to Phuket from 6:25 to 6:56 hours, and flights to Bahrain from 5:40 to 6:53 hours.


On January 5, the Delhi airport had earlier issued a fog alert for all passengers. According to officials, the Delhi airport was undergoing low visibility procedures. Officials noted that all flight operations are currently normal and asked that passengers seeking updated flight information contact the relevant carrier.


Today many trains are also running late due to dense fog and poor visibility. Due to fog, 26 trains are running late in Northern Railway zone and the schedule of two trains is new.


As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the minimum and maximum temperatures in January 2023 are likely to be below normal over many parts of central India and adjoining areas of peninsular, east and northwest India.


Cold wave conditions and dense fog are being observed across North India and according to IMD, similar conditions will continue in the first half of next week.


In the first fortnight of next week, there is a possibility of cold in many areas of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, in some parts of East Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours and in isolated areas of Uttarakhand, West Rajasthan. According to IMD, more Bihar during the next 48 hours.
