Air India takes action against pilot, crew after urination episode. Deets inside

Days after a woman passenger urinated on an Air India flight, the airline has taken action against the pilot and crew members of that flight. The November 2022 incident sparked massive outrage on social media as the Air India crew did not act when the victim shouted for help.

The victim wrote a letter to the chairman of the Tata Group about the incident and alleged that the airline crew tried to hush up the matter.

Taking cognizance of the matter, Air India on Thursday filed a complaint against the accused, Shankar Mishra.

And, on Saturday, Air India issued a show cause notice and removed a pilot and four cabin crew members from the roster pending inquiry.

Further, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson listed the steps taken by the management on the November 26 incident.

He listed some initiatives that can strengthen the security of air passengers. These steps include launching an extensive education program to strengthen staff awareness and compliance with policies for handling incidents and unruly passengers, and better equipping crew to assist those affected empathetically.

In addition, he said the airline would review its policy on serving alcohol in flight. He added that Air India would also improve the robustness of its incident reporting process. The airline's CEO said that they will provide iPads to pilots and senior members of the cabin crew, which will help them report incidents faster.

He said Air India refunded the ticket of the victim. In addition, the air carrier said it had initiated an "internal committee" set by the DGCA, which was tasked with assessing the incidents on 10 December and comprising a retired judge, a representative of a passenger association and another Indian commercial A representative of the airline was involved.

The CEO said Air India called four meetings between senior airline staff, the victim and her family on December 20, 21, 26 and 30 to discuss the course of action.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police arrested Mishra from Bengaluru on Saturday. That police station was staying in the homestay of Sanjay Nagar area. Ravi Singh, DCP IGI Airport, Delhi Police said that investigation is on and some crew members and co-passengers have also been called for questioning.
