White House condemns Musk's remarks on Fauci, calls it 'disgusting'

The White House condemned Elon Musk's comments on Anthony Fauci's handling of the COVID-19 strict measures. It also made its stand clear that further 'hateful' comments would attract a similar response from the US government

Reacting sharply to Twitter CEO Elon Musk's comments on Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House on Monday called his remarks "disgusting" and "incredibly dangerous."

“These personal attacks that we are seeing are alarming, even on Dr. Fauci and other public health professionals. They are disgusting and they are divorced from reality," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday when asked about Musk's tweet.

He also said that the US government will continue to oppose such comments and has a very clear position on this.

It is worth noting that US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci had faced a lot of criticism due to his strict COVID measures policies including mandatory masks, social distancing, isolation etc.

The senior immunologist has completed a 5-decade-long stint in which he was an advisor to seven US Presidents. He came into the limelight after he took the front seat of COVID management in the United States. However, he has also faced death threats for doing his job during the pandemic, Reuters reported.

There was sharp condemnation from the White House after Elon Musk taunted him over using gender pronouns and used it to criticize Anthony Fauci, calling for him to be prosecuted.

Musk tweeted, “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is set for retirement this month. He became the face of America's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic with strict guidelines. From appearing on television to broadcast the government's message to the implementation of strict COVID measures such as social distancing, mandatory masks, etc., Fauci played a key role in the US response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

His support of vaccines and lockdowns has put him on the list of conservatives' most hated persons. Donald Trump also criticized him. Republicans, who will control the House since January, have hinted at a possible investigation into Anthony Fauci over the US administration's COVID response.

Fauci responded by saying, "If there is a surveillance hearing, I will cooperate fully and testify." He also assured to cooperate with the government in any such investigation in future. We have spoken, so I have nothing to hide," he said.
