'Millions of Indian fans...' PM Modi congratulates Argentina on FIFA World Cup win

 


Argentina won its first FIFA World Cup title since 1986 by defeating defending champions France on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Argentina on winning the FIFA World Cup and claimed that the World Cup final will be remembered as one of the most exciting football matches.

Taking to Twitter to share his thoughts on the World Cup final, PM Modi wrote, “This will be remembered as one of the most thrilling football matches ever! Congratulations Argentina on being crowned #FIFAWorldCup Champions! He has performed brilliantly throughout the tournament. Millions of Indian fans of Argentina and Messi are happy for the great win!@alferdez"

In another tweet, the Prime Minister also praised the French team for their 'spirited' performance in the World Cup final. He wrote, "Congratulations to France for a spirited performance at the #FIFAWorldCup! He also delighted football fans with his skill and sportsmanship on his way to the final. @EmmanuelMacron"

Along with the Prime Minister, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi also congratulated Argentina on winning the World Cup.

Claiming both Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe of Argentina to be the real champions, Rahul Gandhi wrote, "What a beautiful game! Congratulations to Argentina for a thrilling win. Well played, France. Both Messi and Mbappe played like true champions." ! #FIFAWorldCupFinal shows again how sports without borders unite!"

The president of the Grand Old party praised Argentina's 'fantastic' performance, writing, "Many congratulations to Argentina for a great performance and becoming #FIFAWorldCup champions! Argentina won the World Cup by defeating defending champions France on penalty kicks. It was Argentina's first World Cup title since 1986 and its second major trophy since 1993.

Star Argentine player Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball award as the best player of the tournament. He became the first player in World Cup history to score in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

Meanwhile, French center forward Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot award after scoring his sixth, seventh and eighth goals of the tournament in the World Cup final.
