IMD: Widespread rains in the state from December 19 for the next 4 days; details here

The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in Tamil Nadu from December 19.

According to IMD Tamil Nadu, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places, along with thunder and lightning at a few places over Tamil Nadu.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain at isolated places over Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Sivagangai, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal on December 21.

Meanwhile, the IMD also predicted heavy rainfall over South Tamil Nadu on 20 and 21 December.

The regional weather office has predicted heavy rain at isolated places over Ramanathapuram, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Sivagangai, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on December 22.


It has also predicted that the sky condition is likely to remain partly cloudy.

"Light rain is likely over some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30°C and 24-25°C respectively."

19 & 20 December: Light to moderate rain very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region.

December 21 & 22: Light to moderate rain likely at a few places over Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region with thunder and lightning at isolated places.

Last week also the state received heavy rains due to cyclonic storm Mandus. On 13 December, heavy rains threw normal life out of gear in the high-range Nilgiris district, while falling boulders and trees on tracks affected train services. In view of the heavy rains, the district administration declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Wednesday.

Besides, Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) services have been canceled for two days from December 15 due to falling of stones and trees on the track, a railway press release said.
