IMD forecast: Moderate rain likely in these southern states today

 



The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted a depression over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to bring heavy rains over the southern states in the next few days.

According to the predictions of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, moderate rain accompanied with thunder and lightning is expected at isolated places in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal during the next few hours. There is a possibility.

In an official statement, the weather office said that light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Thirupattur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thiruchirappalli, Nilgiris and Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu . Puducherry during next 1 to 3 hours, reported ANI.

Taking note of the same, the weather office said in a tweet, the depression over southwest Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during last 6 hours and lay centered about 540 km east-southeast of Chennai on 23rd December. To move slowly west-southwestwards towards Comorin area in Sri Lanka during next 48 hours.

1) Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy falls at a few places very likely over South Coastal Tamil Nadu on 25th and 26th December.

2) Light to moderate rainfall at a few places with heavy falls at a few places very likely over South Kerala on 26th December.

3) Light to moderate rainfall at a few places with heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Lakshadweep Islands on 27 December 2022.

4) Wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph gusting to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along and off Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts by morning of 25th December It is very likely to remain till morning of 26th and reduce thereafter.

5) Wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely along and off Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area along and off south Tamil Nadu and west Sri Lanka coasts on 24 December. gusting to 65 kmph during 25 and 26 December.

6) Wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over Lakshadweep Islands & adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea on 27th December.
