According to officials, Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport witnessed a less chaotic scene at the entry gates during the morning rush hour on Wednesday.


The official page of the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) reported that passenger movement was smooth at all terminal entrances with an average waiting time of 0-5 minutes at 5:30 am on Wednesday.

The airport authority has advised passengers to travel with only one hand baggage for a smooth security experience. Additionally, he has asked passengers to install the DigiYatra app to prevent chaos at airports.


Jet Airways CEO Sanjeev Kapoor on Wednesday lauded the Delhi airport for bringing down the Terminal 3 waiting time period. Kapoor tweeted, "Kudos to Delhi airport - looks like they have fixed T3 terminal entry waiting time even in peak hours. Entry time 0-5 mins at all entry gates at all times yesterday & this morning. Any Time 15-30 minutes no waiting time".

Effect of social media?


Over the past few days, many passengers experienced long waiting hours at the Delhi airport. Several passengers also shared pictures of the crowd at Terminal 3 (T3) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on social media.


Complaining of long queues, a passenger said that new terminals are needed.


Subsequently, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made a surprise visit to the airport and held detailed discussions with the airport officials.


Scindia highlighted that steps are being taken to make travel easier for air passengers.


The aviation minister said, “We have increased the number of entry gates from 14 to 16. There was a meeting with the officials inside the airport where we have decided that a signboard will be installed at each entry gate displaying the waiting time before entry. should be imposed." ,


To further ease the movement of passengers, Scindia said that an important decision was taken regarding the security process. Presently there are 13 lines in use at Delhi airport which we have increased to 16.


Scindia also advised passengers to install the DigiYatra app on their phones, which allows passengers to check in quickly through paperless and contactless processing using facial features.


IGIA, which is also the largest airport in the country, has three terminals – T1, T2 and T3. All international flights as well as some domestic services operate from T3. On an average, it handles around 1.90 lakh passengers and around 1,200 flights per day.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked airlines to deploy adequate manpower at all check-in and baggage drop counters to ensure smooth flow of passengers.


Further, the Ministry has requested the scheduled airlines to put real-time data on their social media feeds regarding the waiting time at the entry gates of the respective airports.


Airlines advice to passengers


Many airlines have advised passengers to reach the airport early, have web check-in and carry only one piece of luggage for faster movement.


• Indigo has asked passengers to reach Delhi airport at least 3.5 hours before the domestic departure.


• Vistara has asked air travelers to reach the airport at least three hours before domestic and international flights.


• Air India issued a travel advisory for passengers to reach the airport at least 3.5 hours
